Mr. Mohanlal De Mel, the Chairman / Manager of Buddhist Ladies’ College Colombo, comes from the illustrious De Mel family. Born as the eldest son of late Mr. Mohandas De Mel, Attorney at Law and founder of this educational institute and Mrs. Bernice De Mel, Mr. Mohanlal began his close association with the school early on in young life. Following his parent’s footsteps he developed a close connection and competence in all activities related to both educational and administrative functions of the school, thereby commencing a journey of service to the educational sector of the country.
Assisted by his brother Mr. Deepthi De Mel Attorney at Law, Mr. Mohanlal’s vision was to create a new dimension in providing education in keeping with the innovative trends. The introduction of an International section at the school was his and Mr. Deepthi’s initiative, to provide the opportunity to students preferring to study and International syllabus. Yet another step forward was the setting up of an IT lab in the year 1982.
Mr. Mohanlal also served as a senior consultant at many government institutions prior to his retirement and was further elected as a member of a parliamentary advisory committee.
At present, Mr. De Mel is assisted by his eldest son Manjeev, in the administration of BLC with the objective of improving both academic standards of the school and its structural segments for providing better educational facilities to girls of the future generation.
